Kaya Mindful Movement
We are dedicated to sharing mindful practices that are accessible to all and informed by modern knowledge
while honoring ancient yoga practices.
Yoga History and Philosophy
Tiramalu Krishnamacharya (1888-1989) is the major influence in yoga evolving in the West. He was the teacher of four key yogis who spread the practice of yoga throughout the world: Indra Devi, Pattabi Jois, B.K.S.Iyengar and his son, T.K.V. Desikachar.
Mindfulness Practices
Jon Kabat-Zinn studied meditation with Buddhist monks in India before developing the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction practice at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in 1979. He distilled Buddhist teachings into mindfulness meditation as we know it in the West.
Scientific Research
Yoga has been studied scientifically since the 1900's. However, its popularity has grown the most in the last 20 years. More studies are being conducted constantly to quantify the many ways that yoga and other mindful practices improve our health and well being.
